An actor who starred in the most hyped cult films, a glamorous Hollywood wild-child, a beautiful pin-up girl. That was the Rose McGowan who emerged after stumbling into the movie industry as a teenager, unaware that it had long been run by men who use and abuse women. That Rose was a facade, shaped by the Hollywood machine. McGowan was one of the first to speak out against the sexual assault she says she suffered at the hands of producer Harvey Weinstein, before #MeToo was even coined. When she did so -- after being silenced for so long -- she shattered the Hollywood illusion. She was finally able to let the real her come into view. Today, we now know Rose as an author -- her memoir, Brave, is a New York Times bestseller -- activist, artist, photographer and movement starter. What’s more, she’s only just getting started. In our final film of Size Matters week, we speak to Caryn Franklin - fashion commentator, Master of Science student and all round i-D i-Con. Co-founder of the award winning All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, an initiative which promotes diverse beauty ideals within fashion and beyond, here she talks about the responsibility the industry has to both men and women and what designers can do to make a change for the better. Fashion has a health problem. After a number of young women spoke out about the incredible pressure to stay super-thin, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image is launching a UK inquiry into model health with a discussion on December 1st. In the run up, i-D explores issues of body image in fashion and beyond with #SizeMatters, a week of videos and features on the topic. To kick things off, size 8 model Rosie Nelson describes how being told to get “down to the bone” by an agency lead to her to starting a petition for fashion week health checks - one that would be signed by over 90,000 people.
